SPARTA

SPARTA was founded by David Mackaay in 2014 at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and is run by students. It is a social place to meet, to discuss and reflect: a room where food was served, parties held, with workshops and a weekly talk programme.

It is a space where students can meet artists, thinkers and writers. Professors and students can propose guests and thus it changes together with the whole body of the school, creating its own knowledge exchange, its own content and network outside of the curriculum and the academy’s masterclass.

For Something Stronger Than Me*, SPARTA presents an online radio, generating its content from the weekly talk programme at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, the musical cosmos around the community of the school, contributions from the other artists and collectives participating in Something Stronger Than Me* and input by musicians from Brussels. Concentrating on SPARTA’s main purpose of being a social platform to meet, discuss and reflect, it develops its own knowledge network over the course of the project. The water fountain emphasises the radio’s parameters of noise, fluidness and travelling of information.

During your visit, you can listen to the sound contributions around the SPARTA fountain. 11:00-11:37: Talk by Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster / 11:40-11:51: « Liberate Cinema » by Mathilde Fernandez / 11:53-12:57: « SPARTA Radio mix » by Ian Tocor / 13:00-13:36: « The Signal is Strong » by Radna Rumping / 13:38-13:56: « Cinema Soundscape » by Mathilde Fernandez / 13:58-14:34: Reading by Natasha Soobramanien / 14:36-14:38: SPARTA Radio Teaser by Rosa Sarholz with Julia Scher / 14:40-15:42: « Esam » by Ligovskoï / 15:44-16:45: « GOUTE MES DISQUES » by Rodolphe Coster / 16:47-17:46: mix by Collapsing Market / 17:48-18:00: « Liberate Cinema » by Mathilde Fernandez
