Nadim Vardag

Residency

A strange emptiness rules the spatial settings of Nadim Vardag. For his presentation in the Project Room, the former WIELS resident continues his investigation of scenarios in which objects appear as studies in presence and absence. The understated quality of his works is manifested through their precise planning and design. Ultimately, the objects thereby produced seem to be primarily placeholders for something else.

The installation, especially conceived for the Project Room, engages the exhibition space as a whole. By modifying the fluorescent tubes, the space itself becomes a protagonist.

Nadim Vardag was born in Germany in 1980. He has studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and currently works and lives in Vienna and Berlin. Previous solo presentations include exhibitions at Kunstmuseum St.Gallen, Georg Kargl Fine Arts Vienna and Kunstverein Medienturm Graz.
