At AFFILIATE, Mashid presents a selection of works from a series that began during her residency at WIELS. The collage work created then is expanded into a delicate interplay of photography, animation, moving image and performance. Her latest artist’s book, Riding in Silence & The Crying Dervish, adds her writing.
Mashid Mohadjerin's work weaves personal narratives together with far-reaching political events, placing her own family stories against the broader historical backdrop of the Middle East and the West. In search of subtle nuances hidden behind the spectacular and the familiar, she offers an alternative, multifaceted look at themes like migration, war, cultural transformation, and resistance.
Mashid Mohadjerin (PhD) is a visual artist; her work is shown internationally and has received multiple awards. In recent years, Mohadjerin’s research-based work has expanded towards multimedia installations containing video work, sound, text, collages and performance. Through these media, she continues to explore multiperspectivity and alternative forms of narration. She has just released her third artist's book.
