APPLICATION GUIDELINES
The application must be sent by e-mail in PDF format to residency@wiels.org, clearly indicating “Aureus-WIELS Residency 2026 – (Name SURNAME)” in the subject line by Monday, 1st September 2025, 09:00 (CET).
PART 1: PAPERWORK
Application paperwork should include in the following order:
A. APPLICATION FORM: Please download and fill out the PDF application form below.
B. CV/RESUME: Please include your educational background and exhibition history.
C. ARTIST STATEMENT: In 250 words or fewer, write a statement about your work.
D. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: In 250 words or fewer, describe your potential projects, ideas and expectations for the residency at WIELS.
E. REFERENCES: Please provide the name, email, telephone number, and postal address of three references who can comment on your recent work and artistic development on a professional level. Please do not attach any letters of support.
F. IMAGE SCRIPT: The titles on the image script should correspond to those marked in the titles of the digital image files (see PART 2 below). Include the title, date, medium, dimensions, and a brief description of each work (less than 50 words for each image/video). Any links to the view the files online can be inserted here.
PART 2: VISUAL DOCUMENTATION
We ask that you send a selection of no more than 10 images and/or videos.
The visual files should be sent via email together with the ‘paperwork’, or be included in the IMAGE SCRIPT as a download link that does not expire, provided by file-hosting services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, Vimeo or YouTube.
MAXIMUM 10 IMAGES: Each image file must be titled with your First Name_SURNAME and image number (e.g. Jean_SMITH 01; Jean_SMITH 02 …). Accepted file type: single JPG files or bundle PDF files.
VIDEO FILES: Moving images, i.e. time-based media, video, kinetic art or documentation of performance art, should be included in the IMAGE SCRIPT featured in your application ‘paperwork’ as a download link that does not expire, either provided by file-hosting services such as Dropbox or Google Drive, or video-sharing websites such as YouTube or Vimeo. One video counts as one image, the duration does not matter. Video files of still artwork or documentation of artistic processes will not be accepted.
CONDITIONS
The call is open to artists over 21 years of age, no longer students, legally able to travel and work, with Canadian citizenship or living and working in Canadian territory, having contributed to the Canadian art scene in the last few years.
The Residency is aimed at artists seeking to develop their artistic practice in a professional context, through projects involving experimentation, research and/or critical theory. Candidates may work with any medium, but must have developed at least two years of professional practice and have participated in several exhibitions. We welcome emerging artists and those who, with an established professional trajectory, are interested in reorienting their creative process or carry out research or a new project in a different line than previous works.
The selected resident will have their travel, insurance, accommodation, and any due visa-application costs covered, as well as a provision of 850 €/month for living expenses.
