15:00-15:45 I Film screening
Cihad Caner: (Re)membering the riots in Afrikaanderwijk in 1972 or guest, host, ghos-ti
The film explores the 1972 Afrikaanderwijk riots in Rotterdam, questioning how we remember, and the subjectivity of memory. Through reenactments, it reawakens erased histories, weaving diverse perspectives into a collective narrative, and reclaiming forgotten stories through embodied remembrance.
BIO I Cihad Caner (1990, TR/NL) explores the politics of the image through video, photography, music, motion-capture, and CGI. Caner’s research-driven practice revolves around (re)presentation, language, marginalisation and alterity. His fictional CGI characters are often multi-lingual protagonists in non-linear, metaphorical narratives that employ humour, absurdity, and poetry to critique the status quo.
18:00-19:30 I Film screening & Conversation
Shun Ikezoe: Spectrum (Work in Progress)
In this film project, part of his ongoing research between Japan and Belgium, Shun Ikezoe explores mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, and their care in contemporary society. Through voice-overs of those engaged in care work, it examines the boundaries between visibility and invisibility. The screening will be followed by an open discussion with psychiatrist and author Erik Thys.
BIO I Shun Ikezoe (1988, JP) creates films that shed light on voices often overlooked in society and history by gathering personal stories or memories and reconstructing them into universal narratives. Using a wide range of media – including film and digital formats – he produces both films and installations, pushing the boundaries between cinema and contemporary art on a global scale.
BIO I Dr. Erik Thys, PhD works as a psychiatrist in PSC St.-Alexius Elsene and UPC KU Leuven. Besides his clinical work, he focuses on the link between creativity and psychopathology. He is guest lecturer at KU Leuven, researcher at LUCA School of Arts, and president of the non-profit organization KAOS, where artistic projects with a link to psychiatry are developed.
