15:00-15:45 I Film screening
Cihad Caner: (Re)membering the riots in Afrikaanderwijk in 1972 or guest, host, ghos-ti
BIO I Cihad Caner (°1990, TR) is an artist based in Rotterdam. His practice explores the politics of the image through video, photography, music, motion-capture, and CGI. Caner’s research-driven practice revolves around (re)presentation, language, marginalisation and alterity. His fictional CGI characters are often multi-lingual protagonists in non-linear, metaphorical narratives that employ humour, absurdity, and poetry to critique the status quo.
18:00-19:30 I Film screening & Conversation
Shun Ikezoe: Spectrum
Spectrum, a work-in-progress, addresses mental health issues. The screening will be followed by a conversation between the artist and Dr. Erik Thys.
BIO I Shun Ikezoe (°1988, JP) is a filmmaker and artist. His work focuses on creating films that shed light on voices often overlooked in society and history by gathering personal stories or memories and reconstructing them into universal narratives. Using a wide range of media – including film and digital formats – he produces both films and installations, pushing the boundaries between cinema and contemporary art on a global scale.
BIO I Erik Thys works as a psychiatrist in PSC St.-Alexius Elsene and UPC KU Leuven. Apart from his clinical work, he focuses on the link between creativity and psychopathology (as a researcher and as president of the non-profit organization KAOS), psychiatric stigma (the book Psychogenocide (2015) on the Nazi mass murder of psychiatric patients) and art (Portraits (2017) and Kunsttijdschrift Vlaanderen (2017)).
