Christoph Schlingensief was born in 1960 in Oberhausen. With films including Das deutsche Kettensägenmassaker and Terror 2000, art installations, exhibitions and actionist projects such as the container action Bitte liebt Österreich!, as well as the creation of the political party CHANCE 2000, he has been unwavering in his involvement in cultural and political discourse over the past two decades.

The themes that interest him always centre on the issues of God, redemption and the meaning of all art. He has staged highly respected theatre and opera productions such as Kunst und Gemüse, A. Hipler at the Volksbühne in Berlin and the ATTA-Trilogie at the Volksbühne, Viennas Burgtheater and the Schauspielhaus in Zurich. Highpoints between 2004 and 2007 include Wagners Parsifal in Bayreuth and The Flying Dutchman in Manaus legendary opera house in 2007. The 2008 Ruhrtriennale festival saw the premiere of his fluxus oratorio Church of Fear. He has frequently been invited to participate in the Theatertreffen in Berlin and has won several awards, most recently the 2010 Helmut Käutner Award. The foundation stone for Schlingensiefs total art project REMDOOGO, the worlds first opera village in Burkina
