In de context van de tentoonstelling Magisch Realisme: Natuurlijke wan/orde verbeeld, nodigt WIELS deelnemende kunstenaars uit voor een conversatie waarvan het startpunt een object — iets persoonlijk betekenisvol dat resoneert met de thema's van de tentoonstelling.

In het eerste deel van een reeks gesprekken verkennen Bianca Baldi en Elizabeth Povinelli hoe de natuurlijke materialen waaruit hun objecten bestaan — gom en hout — niet alleen fysieke eigenschappen, maar ook historische, sociale en politieke ladingen met zich meedragen. Hun uitwisseling raakt aan koloniale sporen, ecologische extractie en de manieren waarop materie herinnering en mythe kan belichamen.
