About this event
For the past six months, Sharon Van Overmeiren has been exploring the meaning and lineage of objects displayed in various compositions, with a focus on their metaphysical qualities. Nearing the conclusion of her residency at WIELS, Van Overmeiren presents her work in a new installation.
In The Happy Inn, she examines existential issues with a healthy dose of humour. The inevitable tendency of the human mind to connect past, present and future is a recurring subject for Van Overmeiren. She investigates this mechanism by manipulating and reshaping found images into ceramic sculptures, videos and drawings. The universe of these objects emerges from an ordered system reminiscent of a matrix, in which Van Overmeiren evokes different kinds of perspectives and states of mind.
Sharon Van Overmeiren (b.1985, Antwerp) specialized in sculpture at the Sint-Lukas School of Arts in Brussels and obtained her MFA from the In Situ³ open study programme at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (2009-13).
