Jürgen Bock, curator and founding director of Maumaus in Lisbon, presents the lecture Leaden Times in the Back of Beyond, or the History of Sensitivity in Portuguese Arts in the 1960s and 1970s.

The lecture focuses on artistic production in the 1960s and 1970s in Portugal, presenting works that reveal the Zeitgeist of a country in upheaval, using, among others, the forms of narration of Novo Cinema.

Jürgen Bock is a curator. He directs the Maumaus Independent Study Program and attached exhibition space Lumiar Cité in Lisbon. His exhibitions include the CCB Project Room (Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon, with a.o. Eleanor Antin, Nathan Coley, Harun Farocki, and Renée Green 
in 2000-01), Andreas Siekmann (India Triennale, New Delhi, 2005), Ângela Ferreira, Maison Tropicale (Portuguese pavilion, Venice Biennale, 2007), Heimo Zobernig (Palacio de Velázquez, Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, 2012), and Allan Sekula, The Dockers’ Museum 
(La Criée, Rennes, 2012/Johann Jacobs Museum, Zurich, 2014). He has been responsible for the organization of numerous international conferences.
