In the framework of the exhibition Hana Miletić: Dependencies, WIELS invites Lara Staal to give a talk on art’s potential for social agency.
Lara Staal is a researcher, writer and curator. Between 2013 and 2016 she worked as a programmer at Frascati Theater in Amsterdam, where she developed various political social programmes in which alliances between art and other domains were created from shared urgencies. From an increasing interest in developing innovative forms in which dialogue and reflection can take place, in 2016 she developed, together with visual artist Jonas Staal, the “Congress of Utopia”. Since 2017 she has been working as a freelance curator in the performing arts. At the moment, she is working together with former refugee and human rights activist Yoonis Osman Nuur on “Europe on Trial”, a lawsuit against the EU because of the current refugee policy. Next season she will develop a trilogy at NT Gent about the state of truth, beauty and faith in our society today.
